Tuesday June 21st, the Summer Solstice. We were sad to leave Prague, since we loved it so much, but the time had come to move on. We hopped on the train thinking that it was going to be an easy travel day, a little over 4 hours on one train. We soon learned that they were doing construction on the tracks and the train we were on was not continuing all the way. We had to transfer via bus to another train. That added a bunch of strain to our poor shoulders and arms, carrying the suitcases up and down the steps at this little station and onto a bus, then onto the train again. There's always that moment of panic when you leave a place, whether it's an airbnb or a train, wondering, do I have everything! We have forgotten two items (that we know of) so far, one was Kyle's water bottle, which was a guarantee to be lost anyway, ;) and our cooler bag, which unfortunately was my fault. It's a bummer because they do not give bags away at the grocery stores here, you either have your own or you are buying a reusable or paper bag from the grocery store. I liked having my packable cooler bag which I bought at (a competitor store) REI. We used it to bring stuff from one Airbnb to another. Anyway, enough about my cooler bag! Luckily, those are the only two things we've lost so far.
Back to our travel day to Linz, Austria. We arrived around 2:00 and hailed a taxi to a hotel, a good old Courtyard by Marriott! It was attached to a convention center and not really located near anything, so suffice to say, the boys and I didn't do much that evening. Paul worked in the lobby of the hotel and I went out walking, then the boys and I went to a pizza place nearby for dinner, bring Paul something back to eat. One thing to note is that hotels in Europe rarely seem to have big enough rooms for families, so we had to get two rooms. It was very weird sending the boys off to their own room on a different floor than ours! On Wednesday, we got up bright and early to head to the train station, we had three trains to ride. The scenery was incredible from Salzburg to Villach, Austria! It definitely made me want to come back to Austria in the near future to spend some time exploring. Our last train we had our own compartment, which was fun, we had to endure the wind though, because there was no AC on this train. Ljubliana, Slovenia is where we ended up. More about that in my next post.
