On Friday, we had to take 5 trains from Brugge to our final destination in Germany where we met my cousins. Our German relatives really know how to make us feel welcome. We were picked up from the train station and brought back to Karina and Martin’s house where the rest of the family met up with us. A delicious dinner was had out in their back garden.
Then we were transported to a nice historical hotel/museum where we spent the night.
Saturday morning we enjoyed a good breakfast at the hotel, the fresh honeycomb being Paul and Braydon’s favorite part! I was impressed with the electric tea kettle-it was the fanciest one I’ve ever seen!
We all went to a cute small town where Karina and Martin were married. Walked around and had some fancy ice cream. Braydon got the infamous Spaghetti Eis.
We drove about 40 KM to the historical town of Miltenberg, with timber houses. Very quintessential Germany. Here we were treated to a boat cruise on the Main River. It was beautiful seeing the hills around the old towns, passing by grapevines going up the hills, and castles in the distance. It was quite hot under the sun, but a nice breeze was blowing.
We had dinner at the oldest restaurant in Germany. I enjoyed my brats and sauerkraut thoroughly! After a leisurely dinner full of good conversation we were driven back to our hotel. The next morning, everyone came to our hotel for Sunday breakfast and to send us off to the train station.
It was great meeting all of our German relatives!
